For more than 100 years, Shepard has valued service—to our customers, each other, and the communities in which we work and live. Through Shepard GO (Giving Outwardly), our philanthropic program, we support local initiatives that make a difference in people’s lives.
This past spring and summer, Shepard associates had the privilege of assisting charitable organizations in six regions where we have offices. We’re grateful for the opportunity to support this vital work focused on food security, shelter, community building, and bringing comfort to hospitalized children.
Atlanta – Spring 2024
Senior Social Event
City Takers Movement is a faith-based organization on a mission to strengthen communities in distressed neighborhoods of Atlanta and Southwest Florida. With outreach activities extending to reach our unhoused neighbors, the group’s commitment to building community wherever people find themselves is particularly inspiring.
Associates at our Atlanta branch were grateful for the opportunity to co-host Senior Bingo Fiesta with the City Takers crew at Friendship Towers, a senior living facility in historic West Atlanta. Guests enjoyed bingo, fresh-made fajitas, nachos, drinks, and music. At Senior Bingo Fiesta, everyone was a winner, and took home baskets full of toiletries, household items, and snacks. We had a blast making friends and contributing donations to support this fun event for local seniors!
Ontario, California – Spring 2024
Community Garden Support
In the Inland Empire region of Southern California, low incomes and food deserts create an ongoing health crisis. Roughly 400,000 people in the region experience food insecurity. Huerta del Valle is a grassroots network of urban farms and community gardens working to make healthy organic produce available to everyone in the region by building a garden for every square mile of residential space.
Shepard associates at our Ontario, California branch rolled up their sleeves to help these urban farmers harvest fruits and veggies, clean out a large weedy area, remove cut trees, and assist with picking up food waste from local restaurants that gets turned into compost. We also offered materials from past shows for reuse that would otherwise end up in the landfill.
Indianapolis – Summer 2024
Food Pantry Assistance
Saint Vincent de Paul Indy’s 30th Street Food Pantry serves as a lifeline for many members of our community who are experiencing food insecurity. Their tireless efforts make a significant difference in countless lives.
Associates at our Indianapolis branch worked alongside the dedicated food pantry staff, assisting with packaging produce and meat, sorting canned goods, and loading groceries into guests’ cars.
Las Vegas – Summer 2024
Packing Produce for Seniors
Three Square operates vital food pantries in Southern Nevada, where more than 340,000 people don’t always know where their next meal will come from. Their commitment to fighting hunger is truly admirable.
This summer, Shepard associates at our Las Vegas branch braved the record-breaking summer heat to pack 1,200 bags of produce for seniors in need.
Houston – Spring 2024
Shelter Donation Drive
Star of Hope, a faith-based organization in Houston, provides vital services to unhoused families through their development centers (shelters), where they offer spiritual support, education, employment assistance, and substance abuse recovery programs.
Our Houston team was grateful for the chance to contribute to Star of Hope’s mission by organizing a donation drive for urgently needed items at our warehouse.
Baltimore – Summer 2024
Pajama Prep for Hospitalized Kids
The Casey Cares Foundation does remarkable work in bringing moments of joy to hospitalized children in critical conditions. Their thoughtful initiatives, from movie nights to providing fresh pajamas, make a world of difference for these young patients.
Our Baltimore branch was honored to assist Casey Cares by sorting, rolling, and tagging pajamas for hospitalized patients, contributing in a small way to their impactful work.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Huerta del Valle, Star of Hope, We Are City Takers, Saint Vincent de Paul Indy, Three Square, Casey Cares Foundation, and all the other organizations doing vital work in our communities.
